Corporate partnering

Our research centers and strong faculty-industry ties yield an impressive record of private-academic partnerships and strategic relationships. Moreover, our students benefit from and provide value to the firms with whom we partner.

ANSYS, Arconic Inc., Bosch, Ford Motor Company, Ingersoll Rand Inc., Lockheed Martin, Siemens, Samsung, ThermoFisher/Cellomics, Toyota, and United Technologies are just a few of our partners.

Partnerships with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon can take many forms. We invite you to contact us to discuss how we might best partner with you.

Sponsoring research

Mechanical engineering research contributes to the understanding of fundamental scientific and engineering issues and concepts, benefits the nation's economy, and contributes to an enriched quality of life.

Research is such an integral component of our educational program for both undergraduate and graduate students that the university received a National Science Foundation Recognition Award for the Integration of Research and Education.

An important element of our mission is the dissemination of our research. This occurs as our alumni share their knowledge and skills though their careers, but also through publications, industrial collaborations, licensing, and the creation of new businesses that spin out of the university.

An important key to innovation is collaboration, whether in the laboratory or in industry.

We develop mechanical engineers that are problem-solvers and leaders. Through internships and full-time positions, our students demonstrate innovative, collaborative, and multidisciplinary thinking that makes an immediate impact in their places of employment.

We work closely with the university’s Career Center to facilitate on-campus interviewing for internship and full-time positions for both undergraduate and graduate students. Alumni are particularly invited to share their expertise with current students.
