Carnegie Mellon University Commencement Weekend: May 9 - 11, 2025 

MechE will have a diploma ceremony for just MechE students. (date, time, location TBA).
CMU will host the main commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 11, 2025. 

Most asked questions about commencement weekend: 

  • Q: Will MechE have its own diploma ceremony during commencement weekend? 
    A: Yes! MechE will host its own diploma ceremony where MechE students will have their name called, process across a stage, and receive a diploma AFTER the ceremony. 
  • Q: What happens at the main CMU commencement ceremony?
    A: The ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 11, 2025.  Additional details about the difference between ceremonies can be found here. 
  • Q: As a graduating MechE student, do I need to RSVP to the MechE diploma ceremony? 
    A: Yes! An RSVP specific to the MechE department diploma ceremony will go out sometime in late January.
  • Q: Who will receive the RSVP form?
    A: Any registered graduating MechE student (also summer 24 and fall 24 grads).  If you are unsure of your status, please contact your advisor.
    Parents will NOT receive an RSVP form for the ceremony, only MechE students. 
  • While you wait for the RSVP form in late January  - Some questions we will ask on the form include:
    • Will you be in attendance at the ceremony?
    • How would you like your name pronounced at the ceremony? (Example: first name, middle name, last name? First name, middle initial, last name?) 
    • Phonetic spelling of your name?  Please also use NameCoach to register how you say your name.
    • How many guests do you anticipate coming to the ceremony?
  • Q: Will the MechE diploma ceremony be live-streamed and recorded?
    A: Yes, We will live stream the MechE diploma ceremony and share the recording during the summer.
  • Q: Do guests require tickets to the MechE diploma ceremony? 
    A: No. MechE does not require guests to have tickets.
  • Q: Where can I find more details about CMU's commencement weekend?
    A: You can find additional details here.  More information will be posted in January.
